So when the brothers asked their money back, he was as poor as a church rat. He lived afterwards (from about 1900) in the village of Tzum and died in 1932. “I have known Yede when I was a little child; very vaguely I can remember him, a very old man with a grey beard. They were poor, but very fine people. Minne Yede and Hiltje farmed originally in Lichtaard where all of the children were born. They ran into problems with the landowner because they were in favor of a separate Christian education. They were given notice and moved to Hallum where they celebrated their golden anniversary.

In the will of Minne Ydes de Jong his wife got all the income of the total estate. The notary public has a document signed by survivors of sons and sons- in-law. But nobody on behalf of Hans in Michigan.  However, when his Father died Han’s debt of 6602,52 was forgiven. This was the amount he borrowed to immigrate to the United States.  I suppose this was considered his inheritance.
