William Lowell DeYOUNG One of Woodinville’s most influential longtime citizens, died peacefully at Evergreen Hospital on February 3rd, 2009. He was 88. Born May 6, 1920, to John and Ellen DeYoung in Kent, Lowell moved with his family to Woodinville in 1925. He was the third of six DeYoung children. Older siblings Milford and Anna Francis, Lowell, and younger brothers Bob, Jim, and Al were all active children and hard workers in the Woodinville community. Lowell graduated from Bothell High School in 1938 and married his class mate, Stella Pascoe, on November 26, 1942. In 1944, he opened Lowell DeYoung Company, which grew into a large animal feed manufacturing company with retail and delivery services throughout the area. DeYoung’s Farm and Garden, in Woodinville, remains open today. Lowell was a bedrock of the Woodinville community, serving in several positions including Commissioner of the King County Fire District 42, Commissioner of the Woodinville Water District, and charter member of the Woodinville Chamber of Commerce. He also founded Northshore First National Bank in Bothell. Lowell was a passionate supporter of several philanthropic causes, including Evergreen Hospital, Washington State University, Seattle Pacific University, Bellevue Christian School, and the Union Gospel Mission. Family and friends remember Lowell’s loyalty, work ethic, and unlimited generosity. He never forgot a name or face and treated everyone with dignity and honesty. He made his family the ultimate priority and celebrated life with those he loved at every opportunity, especially enjoying regular family dinners at his favorite local restaurants. He is survived by Stella, his wife of 66 years, as well as his brother, Al, and children, Dennis (Deborah) and John (Diane). Lowell is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and an extended network of family and friends who will forever cherish their memories of a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Evergreen Hospital Foundation or the Union Gospel Mission.
