Floyd County Court Records

This Indenture, made the 11th day of May 1836, between Samuel James of Floyd County and State of Kentucky, of the one part and Isaac James of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Samuel James for and in consideration of by acknowledge hath and by these presents doth bargain, sell, alien and confirm unto the aforesaid Isaac James his heirs & etc. forever one certain tract of land situate in Floyd County aforesaid on Johns Creek, and bounded as followeth; beginning on the south side of Johns Creek on a beech marked as a conditional line between Benjamin Burchet and Samuel James; thence running up the creek with the line of survey poles to a buckeye a corner to said survey; thence with the line of the same to a rock cliff near the creek; thence a direct line across the creek to a hickory dividing line between Reuben Matthews and Thomas Stuart; thence down the creek with the open line of the survey to Samuel Jameses line; thence with his line crossing the creek to the beginning which said tract of land suppose to contain forty acres, more or less with all and singular the benefits and emoluments thereunto belonging. I the said Samuel James his heirs & etc, to have to hold the aforesaid land the premises to him the said Isaac James his heirs and etc, forever against me, my heirs and etc, and against all persons claiming by through or under me.

I Jacob Mayo Clerk of the Court for the County aforesaid do hereby certify that the within deed was this day produced to me in my office and proven by the oaths of Malachi Ferguson and Thomas Davis two of the subscribing witnesses, thereto, to be the hand and seal, note and deed of the within named Samuel James subscribing party thereto for the purposes therein mentioned and that the same subscribing party thereto for the purposes therein mentioned and that the same together with the foregoing certificate is duly recorded in my office according to law.
